Hi, my name is Tom Scott, I`m 29 and I have a business called "Swans of Oakham," based in Oakham, Rutland ( Englands smallest county ). Swans is a family owned and run organisation with Peter, my step father, starting the business back in the late eighties and becoming a well known figure in the Antiques world, dealing mostly in Georgian & Victorian furniture. In the mid ninties, he moved into Antique French Beds and quickly became one of the biggest stockists in the UK, specialising in 5` wide Kingsize beds and above, but concentrating on the quality most of all. I joined the company back in 1997 to introduce Swans to the internet and to design our first website. From then, we haven`t looked back and could not have imagined how important our website ( http://www.swansofoakham.co.uk/ ) could and would be to the business. Enabling customers from all over the UK and the world to visit our "online" store and purchase our antiques in confidence. On the site, you will also find details of our other specialist field - handmade bespoke furniture. We have a great team of cabinet makers, painters and upholsterers which enable us to offer, you the client, exactly what you want, the right size and the right colour. Our favorite piece is an extending dining table made with a French C19th base, but the top is a very contemporary solid English oak.
The website now averages around 250,000 hits a month which is amazing! I am always looking at ways to improve the site, to make it more user friendly or more informative, without losing the main benefit of the website, being so simple and easy to navigate. All feedback and suggestions welcome!
